» ‘Self gazing’, the exhibition

These are the nine images that will be exhibited at camara oscura galeria de arte, Madrid, from 17th April to 31st May 2008.
Not long to go!
The images are, from left to right starting with top row and going down:
An impromptu performance (2008)
The chase (2007)
Sea view (2007)
Girl dreaming (2007)
South by southeast (2007)
On the rocks (2007)
Memoirs of a woman of leisure (2006)
The deaths (2006)
Stretch (2006)
Camara oscura is in Atocha, the gallery district of Madrid, not far from the major museums.
My work, including the nine images on display, will be available in limited editions of five, printed on the finest quality archival paper with Epson Giclee inks, (at 23 x 34.5 inches for normal portrait/landscape dimensions, and 23 x 23 for square images).
The nine exhibition prints on display are coated in archival UV coating and framed with a natural matt colour aluminium frame.
I’ll keep the blog updated with any exciting press coverage (fingers crossed) and more info!

Will you be there at the opening or something?
It’d be great seeing you there

Just out of interest, did the gallery choose the images, or are they entirely your choice?
March 21st, 2008 at 4:42 pm
We both chose…
Amongst the images the gallery liked were The deaths, Girl dreaming, Stretch, On the rocks and Sea View; we wanted a floaty ghost image so I suggested An impromptu, we both agreed on Sea view and The chase, and I made my case for South by southeast and Memoirs…
I am really pleased with how quickly the nine images were put together - a nice mixture of my work (the most popular ones) but avoiding having pics that are too alike. In my opinion of course.

Yes, it’s a good mixture, with my faves being “The Chase” and “Memoirs”. I wish I could be a fly on the wall in the gallery (and that I could understand Spanish) as it would fascinate me to see and hear the “live” reactions of visitors. I’d particularly like to see if there is a polarization of taste amongst couples, i.e. will men gawp at the nudes and their girlfriends get jealous, and will the men come back on their own for a more detailed look.

I dunno if you’re going out there, but I imagine the visitors’ book would be dead exciting to read. I wonder what is the Spanish for “nice arse”.

There is something truly fascinating about every single one. I would love to see the “Spanish” reaction too. In fact, I think it is a great excuse to visit home.
If you need a translator, shout my way!

May I know why only 9?
¿Puedo saber por qué sólo 9?

If you saw the size of the gallery, it’d make sense.
Besides, quality over quantity! I have learnt from past experience that it’s important to present a refined set, not to launch a big mass of work onto an audience, especially when I have a big and relatively diverse portfolio.

Hummm…
I suppose I would have appreciated it if, once that you came to my country, I had had the chance to see many more…
For, as a Photographer and hopefully Artist, myself, I do appreciate the value of your artistic expressions.
Indeed, I do believe your work is really worthy, as you (a single person) are able to combine several artistic disciplines which are commonly taken care by different people, in a unique artistic product.
You (and I assume that on your own) are able to successfully work as an Art Director, Director of Photograpy, Make-Up, Atrezzo, Photographer, Digital Editor, etc.
In my opinion, the skill you show at any of these disciplines by itself should position you in the status of ‘Artist’, but not only are you able to succeed in one of them, but in all of them with virtuosity

Anyway, I didn’t know about the size of the gallery (otherwise, I wouldn’t have asked my question).
Besides, if you want another excuse (and I am not assuming your ‘Quality over quantity!’ is necessarily an excuse), here you have a very popular Spanish quotation:
“Lo bueno si breve, dos veces bueno”
“The good, if brief, becomes twice as good”
Baltasar Gracián

Good quotation! ;))
There is a book at the exhibition showing a wide span of my work so hopefully this will help people get a wider impression.
